Fallis Design Western Saddle - A Treat For Saddle Lovers! I have adored Fallis saddles since I was in my teens in the early 1970s. The serious adult riders at the barn where I boarded all rode Fallis style saddles, so for me they became the saddle of choice.
Fallis saddles were great fits for the horses of that time, atheletic western using horses. The rounded skirts were well suited to short backed horses. The stirrups are hung in a totally unique fashion which allows the rider great range of movement for using the leg. The hangers attach in front of the fenders, in front of the riders leg, and end behind the leg, rather than having all that leather under the leg.
The cinch rigging is set into the round skirts which reduces the bulk under the leg to a bare minimum. The seat is smooth and open with a narrow twist, very different from the Circle Y and Tex Tan saddles of the time. Because of the seats non-restrictive style the 15.5 seat accommodates many riders who would otherwise prefer a large seat size. The tooling is the distinctive corner floral pattern, simple and distinctive, with smooth leather under your leg.
The saddle strings do show their age and previous use. The latigo hanger is stamped with the initial J for John? Monte Foreman was one of the preeminent clinicians in our area, and he was a particular fan of the Fallis balanced ride saddle design.
I never thought I would let go of a Fallis style saddle! But life makes changes, and my extremely broad and chunky Paint horse is just too stout for this saddle. This saddle is safe and sound. At present there are no cinch straps or latigos on the saddle.
I do have leather or nylon tie straps which can be included. I wish you luck, and happy trails! I recently weighed this saddle at the request of a shopper. I weighed it by standing on my bathroom scale holding the saddle, then subtracting my weight from the total. I did this several times in an attempt at accuracy. This saddle weighs 27-29 pounds as it sits. The person that I messaged earlier was given an incorrect weight due to my failure to zero out the scale first. The added photos are of the tooled leather cinch.
